Dr. Abimbola Sowande

A public health physician with over 30 years’ experience on the field spanning Community based integrated health intervention, Maternal and Child Health, HIV/AIDS, Childhood Immunization/ Polio Eradication, and Infection Prevention and Control.

She was born in Lagos Nigeria 68 years ago and was educated mostly in Lagos with the highest degree being a Masters in Public Health from the College of Medicine University of Lagos. She is widely travelled and had actively participated in many Public health International academic Conferences and workshops.

Abimbola Sowande is a public health physician with over 30 years’ experience on the field spanning Community based integrated health intervention, Maternal and Child Health, HIV/AIDS, Childhood Immunization/ Polio Eradication, and Infection Prevention and Control.

She had served as Senior Immunization Program Officer on BASICS II project, managing the USAID Making Medical Injections Safer (MMIS) project, and as the Country Director for AIDSTAR-One.  She is a very well appreciated clinician with significant management and programmatic experience, including work with USAID-funded projects. Her experience in the field of infection prevention and control and health care waste management that was part of the Nigerian CDC IPC Curriculum development team and Nigerian Haemorrhagic Fever Guideline review being a Trustee of Nigerian Society on Infection Control (NSIC) formerly NICA. She had served as Treasurer of the Infection Control African Network (ICAN) and African Regional Coordinator and Board of Trustee, International Federation Infection Control (IFIC). She is currently the Chair of NSIC.

Prof. Folasade T Ogunsola

Folasade Ogunsola is a Professor of Clinical Microbiology at the College of Medicine University of Lagos, Nigeria and a Deputy Vice Chancellor Development services University of Lagos. She has been involved in Infection Control for 20 years and contributed significantly in raising awareness of infection Control in Nigeria. She was a founding member of the Nigerian Society for Infection Control (Formerly Nigerian Infection Control Association, NICA) in 1998 and has assisted in setting up infection control programs in institutions in the country. She was the Chair of the Infection Control Committee of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital till 2012 and the team lead for Infection Prevention and Control during the 2014 Ebola disease outbreak in Nigeria. She has worked as a consultant in IPC with the World Health Organisation since 2009 and is interested in the community applications of Infection Control principles in under resourced communities. She recently with her team wrote a curriculum for a 6month diploma in Infection Control. She is a member of the Global Infection Prevention and control Network, board member of the Nigerian Society of Infection Control and Chair of the Infection Control African Network.

Kenneth Iregbu is a Clinical Microbiologist at the National Hospital Abuja, Nigeria and the current Head of Department of Medical Microbiology & Parasitology in the Hospital. He is a member of the Infection Control Africa Network and a board member and Trustee of the Nigerian Society of Infection Control (NSIC). Dr Iregbu was a founding member of the Nigerian Infection Control Association (NICA), now Nigerian Society for Infection Control (NSIC) in 1998 and has been the Chair of the Infection Control Committee since 2006 and the Chair of Antimicrobial Stewardship Committees of National Hospital Abuja since 2014. He is programmes coordinator of the National working group for antimicrobial stewardship in Nigeria and has contributed significantly in raising awareness on Antimicrobial stewardship in Nigeria.
